Junior Greco Wrestling Tournament

The Community Youth Center (CYC) is again hosting the only international Junior Greco wrestling tournament of its kind in the United States on Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1. It will be a great opportunity to see elite wrestlers from around the nation and world. In its 12th year, this world-class tournament will include teams from Germany, Florida, Oregon, Florida, three California teams, the USA Greco All-Star Team, as well as a team of CYC wrestlers. The competitors are all state, regional, and national level wrestlers in Folkstyle, Freestyle, and Greco disciplines. This high-level competition will include eight national champions and more than 30 All-Americans. It is a combination dual team and individual tournament. Under the direction of CYC Head Coach Mark Halvorson, the objective is to host a high-level international wrestling tournament to help elite wrestlers prepare for national and international competition, all while promoting sportsmanship and camaraderie. In addition to the tournament, U.S. Olympic Training Center residant Robby Smith and 2007 Greco Roman National Team members Kenny Cookand Keith Sieracki, will host a wrestling clinic on Saturday, May 31 to expose more youngsters to the sport of Greco Roman wrestling. We encourage kids to attend and participate in this wonderful opportunity free of charge.

Doors open to the public both days at 8 a.m. with matches starting at 9 a.m. Finals are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 1. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10 (one day) or $15 (2-day pass), with children free. The tournament will be held at the CYC, 2241 Galaxy Court, Concord, CA 94520.
