The CYC wrestling program offers young athletes the opportunity to participate and excel in one of the world's oldest sports. The program trains and challenges wrestlers at all age groups from kindergarten through high school, and all experience levels from beginner to champion. Head Coach Mark Halvorson was very busy last month with CYC wrestlers attending competitions every weekend. The high school wrestlers competed in the Junior Freestyle State Championships in Lemoore in mid-April and CYC had a strong showing with Vince Moita (105 lbs.) winning the state title, Tyler Sheridan (152 lbs.) and Tito Pica (189 lbs.) both placing 2nd, Luke Sheridan (152 lbs.) 5th, and Nick Jansen (171 lbs.) finished 8th.
CYC also traveled to San Jose and Turlock for tournaments with the K-5 and middle school wrestlers. Alex Abono, Joey Moita, Joey Ramirez, Nathan Cervantes, Andrew Cervantes, Edward Bond, Peyton Omania, David Conte, Davino Lucido, Alex Tincsher, and Parker Cossman traveled to all of the tournaments. They all gained experience and excelled in their events.
May is also going to be an active month with wrestlers traveling to Temecula Valley for the Greco Roman State Championships on May 2. CYC will host a Mt. Diablo Wrestling Association tournament on May 10. It will finish the month with its premier event the 12th Annual Junior Greco World Duals on May 31 and June 1. The Junior Greco World Duals feature top level wrestlers from California, Oregon, and our international friends from Germany.
The Wrestler of the Month is Parker Cossman. Parker has really worked hard to improve his skills. His consistency, dedication and the experience he gained this past month really makes us excited to see how Parker will grow as a wrestler.
