Judo is a fun sport, a physical and mental discipline, a martial art form, a recreational activity, a means of self-defense, a fitness program. It is all of these and much more. It is a wonderful sport for boys and girls for not only developing self-confidence, but a sport where the skills learned are transferable to many other sports. More > |

June 2011

Judo students are practicing hard to prepare for the next promotion test on June 23. All judo students are encouraged to pre-register now for judo summer camp to be held on August 8-12. To register for the camp, please visit the front desk. CYC members may also enroll online by logging into your account at: http:,,activenet14.active.com,communityyouthcenter,.
The CYC judo team won three medals at the Santa Clara PAL Invitational Judo Tourney on May 15. Amit Elor captured a gold medal again, and Richard Vidal won a bronze medal in the junior division. Two volunteer coaches, Alexis Becerra and Ronny Elor, showed their best efforts in their respective senior divisions. Ronny Elor won a special gold medal in the senior novice, heavy weight mixed exhibition division. Please note that there is no mixed (male and female) division in Judo. A special exhibition division was granted for this tourney!
Judo Student of the Month is Desiree Tafao-Braganza. Desiree has been very helpful with younger students when she practices randori (free-sparring). She embodies the CYC tenants of discipline, dedication and desire. She has the discipline to practice regularly, the dedication of seldom missing a class and the desire to better her judo. Desiree is a pleasure to have as a judo student, and we wish her all the success in the future. Congratulations, and keep up the good work!
