| The CYC boxing program is the cornerstone and oldest program at the Center. Over
the years, the CYC has produced some outstanding boxers and continues to do so today.
But more importantly, the boxing program has taught and developed core values in
young boys and girls that will help them in all areas of their lives. The coaching
staff proudly teaches the values of respect, camaraderie, tenacity, sportsmanship,
honor, and especially the three D's of
the CYC: Discipline, Dedication, and Desire. More > |

May 2008

CYC sent seven boxers to the Northern California Junior Olympics and 5 of them returned as champions. Jordi Garibay (55 lbs., 9-10 year-olds), Simao Pauati (70 lbs., 11-12 year-olds), and David Borjon (125 lbs., 15-16 year-olds) all won their respective weight and age divisions. The girls also had a great showing as Yazmine Jaime (90 lbs., 11-12 year-olds) and Christal Barajas (110 lbs., 13-14 year-olds) both captured titles. Due to their ages, David and Christal advance to the Regional Junior Olympics in Avenal, California on May.
CYC boxers then headed to the Reno Boxing Invitational on April 26 in Reno, NV. All the CYC boxers had a great showing most of them winning their bouts.
With shows almost every weekend in May, CYC boxers are working hard. The boxers finished April at the Roccapulco Show in San Francisco and then head to the Eureka Tournament on May 3. The following weekend Christal and David show off their skills at the Junior Olympic Regional Championships while the rest of the team participates in a show at Kings in Oakland. Finally, the Boxing program finishes the month with a punch by hosting the 8th Annual Scott’s Live Amateur Boxing Show. It is always one of the highlights of the boxing season. Good luck to everyone! The Boxer of the Month is Simao Pauati. Simao is new to the team and has only competed in three bouts, winning all of them; one of which gave him a Junior Olympics title. Congratulations Simao!
