The Academic Excellence (AE) program stresses the importance of education on a consistent, supportive and daily basis. Our objective is to help student athletes be successful in the classroom by providing a safe and quiet environment in which to study and learn. The AE course is an independent study classroom with dedicated tutors and volunteers available for all those who need assistance. The AE program does not hold class or deliver a separate curriculum. Instead, our program focuses on each individual student and offers support in the subjects necessary. We advocate the importance of good study habits, time management and responsibility.

As of April, 2008 the AE program expanded into two separate classrooms; the first, designated for students Kindergarten through 6th grade and the second for students 7th through 12th grade. With the division of classrooms our students have less distractions and our staff is able to cater to the appropriate age and grade level. Both classrooms are equipped with computers, printers, books and the necessary school supplies.

The CYC also provides several incentive programs including the Report Card Program, where students' good grades, outstanding citizenship and overall improvement are recognized. The Buddy Program, which allows our older student athletes to 'give back' by mentoring our younger members. The Read-a-thon program, which raises money for the AE program, while simultaneously keeping youth involved in reading and life-long learning.

Class Structure

The classroom is available 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. CYC staff encourages all students and athletes to take advantage of the AE program.
