Joe Coniglio, a member of CYC and CWA teams, joined CYC staff as Outdoor Activities Program Director in April 2008. He is responsible for the off-site activities run at Rancho Esquon, Camp Concord, Camp Nejedly, Grizzly Island and trips on the 'Flying A' boat. Coniglio will introduce adventuresome field trips and summer camp programs where children can learn about environmental conservation while doing various fun and educational outdoor activities. In addition, Joe was recently hired by California Waterfowl Association as a Youth Event Coordinator. He will be working with George Oberstadt also of CWA. Oberstadt’s CWA award winning youth program has been featured on the TV show “Step Outside”. They will work closely together to foster CYC youths outdoor experience.
Coniglio graduated from Los Medanos College with an Associate of Science Degree in Biology in 1998 and has been working in the biotechnology industry for more than seven years. He began his career in biotechnology at Genentech in the Biochem department and was most recently a Quality Assurance Inspector at BioZoneLabs. Recently in 2008 went through the certified NRA Basic Shotgun course, and in 2008/2009 he also became a certified NRA Rifle Instructor and certified California Hunters Education Instructor.
Born and raised in Pittsburg, California, Coniglio was introduced to the outdoors at a young age. An avid hunter, fisherman and scuba diver, he has experienced dives at some of the world's most beautiful waters, such as the Monterey Bay Marine Sanctuary, the Mendocino County Coastline, Oahu and various islands in the Mediterranean. A former coach for the Pittsburg Junior Football League for four years, Coniglio also was a counselor for the "Pros for Kids" program.
