Community Youth Center
Corporate Backgrounder
The Community Youth Center (CYC) is a state-of-the-art sports and academic Center where youth ages 3 to 18 thrive in a dynamic and positive environment. A one million dollar gift from The K.H. Hofmann Foundation opened the CYC in September 1995 to provide such a place for the youth of Concord and the surrounding communities. Each year, the Center has continued to grow with more than 1,100 members participating today. The CYC offers 10 recreational programs, as well as an academic excellence center. Combined, these programs help members manage their time effectively so they can become even better students and athletes. More > |

We had our very first outdoor Movie Night in August. The night helped raise money with a good turnout and provided lots of fun for everybody. We had quite a few new games, including the Rubber Ducky Race and a bingo game. Some can only be played outdoors but others will make an appearance at future movie Nights. Movie Night is a regular fundraiser for the Taekwondo program. CYC gets a great deal of help from many donors, in large and small amounts, all through the year. As a non-profit, we rely on the generosity of many people and institutions to keep our doors open and continue providing such great opportunities for our members. Taekwondo, in particular, is a rather expensive sport to study if you go to a commercial Taekwondo dojang; most of them charge at least five times the CYC's monthly dues, give no discounts for uniforms, and you won't find an Academic room with a tutor or a weight room with trained coaches like we have here. So once in a while we ask for support from our members and parents by participating in a fundraiser like Movie Night. The money raised helps CYC keep growing and developing, so let's all try to participate and make it a success each time. Congratulations to Michael Cornejo who was promoted to First Degree Black Belt. Michael was privileged to receive his belt directly from Grand Master Shin, who was present for our promotion test. Starting this month boys will be required to wear a groin cup to class AT ALL TIMES. They are available in the main office. After a short grace period, boys will not be allowed in class without one. We also recommend mouth guards. |
