Spring at the CYC |
Spring is in the air, which means the CYC is bustling with activity and feelings of excitement.
Construction is underway across the street as the CYC expands with a new gymnastics center and academic excellence room. The gymnastics facility, expected to open in June, will hold more than 500 gymnasts, with an additional AE Room specifically for kids ages 5-13. But the excitement and accomplishment doesn’t stop there.
CYC rhythmic gymnasts captured state titles, while the cheerleaders leaped to a strong third place finish at the national championships in Anaheim. Wrestlers competed across California, boxers battled in the USA Men’s Nationals at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs and judo athletes represented CYC with honor and dignity in Cupertino. Small groups explored the outdoors and pitched in to work with the wildlife at Rancho Esquon, young gymnasts tumbled in the morning hours and the academic excellence center continued to provide a quiet place to pursue daily homework.
There will be no slowing down as the taekwondo program hosts its Spring Classic tournament on May 3, and dancers delightfully showcase their steps at the Second Annual Spring Showcase on June 6. Our wrestlers will compete at two state championships (Greco Roman and Junior Freestyle) while others at the CYC will be actively promoting youth health and fitness at three health fairs in the East Bay.
In addition, mark your calendars for two major events in May at CYC – the Eighth Annual Scott’s Amateur Boxing Show (May 21) and Greco World Wrestling Duals (May 30-June 1). If that’s not enough, remember hundreds of classes will go on as usual – and our summer camps kick-off in early June, filling the CYC with kids from morning to night!
As always, we encourage you to cross the street and visit CYC. A special thanks to those who are contributing to the CYC Annual Giving campaign. All this wouldn’t happen without your support. If you have any questions, please contact Julie Marvel at (925) 761-7070, ext. 215. |
