The Community Youth Center is committed to “Building Champions in
Life.” To honor those champions and their outstanding achievements,
the CYC recognizes student athletes at various times during the year. Athletes
are recognized for their athletic ability, but more importantly for exemplifying
core values such as discipline, dedication, desire, commitment, work ethic,
respect, honor, sportsmanship and leadership. These are just a few
of the character traits of a true champion.
Accolades are given out monthly to a student athlete in each program
called “Athlete of the Month.” With this honor, their
photo is placed on the CYC Wall of Fame and included in the monthly newsletter. At
the Annual CYC Awards Banquet held in January, each program recognizes
an “Athlete of the Year.” The evening culminates with
the honor of naming the CYC “Athlete of the Year” and CYC “Member
of the Year” – the highest honors of membership.
Athletic records are meant to be broken, but more importantly, kids
are striving to reach their own personal milestones every time they walk
into the CYC. The CYC structure gives them the opportunity to strive
to achieve their own personal goals and records. With discipline,
dedication and desire, they will be champions. That fact is recognized
everyday!
